 ABOUT US

Every year, our team gets a new challenge from FIRST robotics. After getting the challenge we only have 8 weeks to build a completely new robot from scratch. In these eight weeks, we first CAD model the robots and the game pieces. We put together mock game elements and the robot using these digital models. Then we wire the robot, program it, and create game strategies. After we’ve built the robot, we go to 3+ competitions to compete with other teams around the country and world.

WHAT WE DO

During the eight weeks of the build season, our team members learn valuable skills that will benefit them in the future. A few of these skills include learning how to work with electrical wiring, understanding programming, engaging in both physical and digital modeling and creation, improving communication, and honing problem-solving skills, among others. These skills are not only important during the build season, but also have long-lasting impressions for members personal and professional lives.

HOW FIRST HELPS US

FIRST is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing inspiration and a one-of-a-kind learning experience to young people around the world. There are four leagues: FIRST LEGO League Jr., FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition. Summit has two FIRST Tech Challenge teams and one FIRST Robotics Competition team.

ABOUT FIRST

Our team has been competing with FIRST robotics since 2016, in which we’ve competed in 10 seasons and received 27 awards. We have gone to the World's Competition three times, placing us near the top 10% of the over 3000 teams in 26 countries across the globe. We also frequently receive vital awards from the Competition Judges, such as the Creative design award, Imagery, and Innovation in design awards.
